At Heartland, we believe that when a community thrives, its people prosper. This April, we are excited to highlight Derek Vater, a shining example of community banking in action. As Senior Retail Officer, Derek goes above and beyond his role, remaining deeply connected to the Fort Thomas community he values, even as he expands his leadership to serve the Greater Cincinnati district.
Derek’s passion for community engagement is evident through his work with the Fort Thomas Farmer's Market, where he is serving his second term on the board. This market, often recognized as one of the best in Cincinnati, plays a key role in connecting local vendors with residents and promoting healthier living. Derek volunteers at the market, assisting with setup, breakdown, and even hosting cooking demonstrations using ingredients from local vendors.
One of Derek’s standout contributions was introducing the community table space, a welcoming area at the market for neighbors, local businesses, and non-profits to connect. This space has become an invaluable resource for fostering relationships, supporting small businesses, and providing fun activities for children – creating a well-rounded, thriving community.
Derek’s dedication to building relationships, whether through local initiatives or supporting local businesses, sets a powerful example for his team and reflects the values of community banking at Heartland. We’re proud to celebrate Derek’s continued commitment to making Fort Thomas a better place for all.
