COLUMBUS, OH - February 5, 2025 – Heartland Bank, a division of German American Bank, announces the leadership team of Ben Babcanec, Senior Regional President; Laurie Pfeiffer, Market President; and Alyssa Booms, Regional Senior Retail Officer. Together, they will drive the delivery of innovative financial solutions with a focus on client relationships, local decision-making and a strong commitment to community.

Ben Babcanec began his career with Heartland in 2001 as a Teller. He advanced to Head of Retail Banking in 2012 and was named COO of Heartland Bank in 2020. He graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and attended the Blythe School of Banking and the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He holds a Principles of Banking Certification from the American Bankers Association and serves as region one director for the Community Bankers Association of Ohio, serving on their legislative and education committees. Ben’s commitment to the community includes serving as past president and member of the Gahanna Lions Club, board member of Habitat for Humanity – Ohio, member of the Sunrise Masonic Lodge #783 and past-chair of the Gahanna-Jefferson Education Foundation. Ben and his wife, Dinah live in Central Ohio with their children.
Laurie Pfeiffer has over 24 years of banking experience and joined Heartland Bank in 2012 as a Commercial Relationship Manager. Most recently, she served as Director of Commercial Banking. Laurie is a graduate of The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, as well as the Graduate School of Banking Program at the University of Wisconsin. She earned an Executive Leadership Certificate from the Wisconsin School of Business. Laurie is a past board member with the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Westerville Rotary. She is involved with the Conway Center for Family Business. Laurie and her husband Jeff have one son and reside in Central Ohio.
Alyssa Booms joined Heartland Bank in 2015 as the Head of Retail Sales and has over 21 years of banking experience. She was promoted to Director of Branch Banking in 2020. Alyssa holds a journalism degree and an MBA from Ohio University. She has also completed the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin Madison and earned an Executive Leadership Certificate from the Wisconsin School of Business. She is a past board member of the Worthington Chamber of Commerce. She lives with her husband, Matt, and their son in Worthington.
